The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pompinello closes the distance and clinches.

Zach Newland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Pompinello.

Pompinello has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Newland uses from the top position.

Pompinello has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Newland is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pompinello.

The fighters circle momentarily. Newland darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Newland drops Pompinello with a beautiful combination! Pompinello stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Newland is looking for the KO!

Pompinello has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Newland finds it's way round the side to connect with Pompinello's head.
Pompinello is still on wobbly legs! Can Newland finish him?

Newland lands a body shot.
Pompinello on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Pompinello seems to have recovered his senses.
Newland throws a right and a left that both miss.
Newland swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No joy there for Newland, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Pompinello closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Newland to the mat! Newland manages to get full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zach Newland dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Pompinello's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Newland lands with a hook. Pompinello tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Zach Newland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Pompinello.
A frustrated look appears on Newland's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pompinello jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Newland walks away with a smile on his face. Pompinello gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Pompinello takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pompinello takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A punch lands to the side of Pompinello 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Pompinello is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pompinello shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Newland as he avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pompinello drops his hands momentarily and Newland takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Newland throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Pompinello stumbling backwards into the cage! Pompinello bounces back off the cage towards Newland, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Newland lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Newland celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Zach Newland!
