Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mongo Martensite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martensite's entrance music is the Hellacopters - (Gotta Get Some Action) Now! . A fine choice. Mark Palmer has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Palmer. No joy for Martensite on that attempt.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Martensite!
Martensite throws a right and a left that Palmer avoids nicely.
Martensite fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mongo Martensite seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martensite will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Palmer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Martensite napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Martensite tries to escape but Palmer is in control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Martensite throws a jab when Palmer was well out of range.

Palmer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Martensite to the mat! Martensite manages to get full guard.

Martensite pushes Palmer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Martensite.

Palmer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Martensite looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palmer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Martensite to see if he's OK.

Palmer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martensite keeps working.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

No joy there for Martensite, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mongo Martensite will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Martensite throws a sloppy head kick and Palmer moves out of range easily.
Martensite misses with a looping right.
Martensite doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Palmer counters with a takedown into side control.
Palmer looking to control but instead Martensite has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Martensite is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Palmer pulls his head out easily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Martensite moves into full guard.

Martensite looking for a sweep. Not yet Martensite, not yet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Martensite had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Palmer defends it easily.
Palmer trying to control but Martensite is working from the bottom.
Palmer controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Martensite is on top in guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Palmer is working an open guard so Martensite takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Martensite's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mongo Martensite is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Palmer has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Martensite.

and Palmer counters with a shoot takedown. Martensite fights it but they end up in guard.
Martensite wants to get back to his feet but Palmer passes into half guard.

Palmer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martensite. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Palmer content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Palmer prevents Martensite from getting back to his feet.

Martensite escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Palmer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Martensite is looking for a triangle but Palmer pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Martensite lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Martensite rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Palmer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Martensite gets caught flat footed, as Palmer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

and Palmer counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Palmer.

Palmer wants to control from the top but Martensite keeps moving.
Palmer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Martensite kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Martensite wants to stand and escape but Palmer is having none of it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Martensite connects with a nice short shot to Palmer's temple.
Palmer wants to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Palmer can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Martensite misses with a few strikes there.

Martensite throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Martensite tries to close the distance and clinch up but Palmer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Palmer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Martensite avoids it really well and circles away.
Palmer ducks under a wild hook from Martensite.

Martensite rushes Palmer and presses him up against the cage.

Martensite escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mark Palmer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Palmer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
