PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Shamroock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Vazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vazquez takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
A good leg kick by Shamroock.
Vazquez looks gassed!
Vazquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Shamroock tries to sprawl out of it but Vazquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shamroock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A head kick misses from Shamroock.
Shamroock throws a head kick but Vazquez moves out of range.
Vazquez shoots in for a takedown but Shamroock shows good takedown defense.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shamroock throws a head kick that Vazquez semi-blocks.
Shamroock throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Vazquez.

Shamroock throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ken Shamroock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shamroock avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Shamroock. Vazquez shrugs it off though.
Vazquez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Shamroock counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Ken Shamroock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Javier Vazquez.
Shamroock connects with a solid leg kick.
Shamroock lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Shamroock throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Vazquez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shamroock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vazquez on the ground.

Shamroock is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Shamroock can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vazquez lands a decent elbow from side control.

Vazquez decides to stand back up.

Vazquez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Shamroock counters with a head kick. That will keep Vazquez thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Vazquez has closed the distance and engaged Shamroock in a clinch.
Shamroock is looking to break free of the clinch but Vazquez has double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Shamroock's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Vazquez pulls Shamroock into guard.
Shamroock trying to control the position from guard on top but Vazquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Shamroock has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Vazquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shamroock!

Vazquez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Shamroock turns into him and now he's in Vazquez's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vazquez pulls Shamroock in close to his closed guard and prevents Shamroock from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Shamroock dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Vazquez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shamroock napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Vazquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shamroock keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vazquez tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Shamroock gets caught flat footed, as Vazquez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Shamroock is working an open guard so Vazquez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Shamroock throws a nice head kick!
Vazquez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Shamroock or perhaps it was just good defense by Vazquez which made him look bad.
Shamroock throws a shot to the body.
Shamroock slaps away a takedown attempt from Vazquez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Shamroock tries to clinch up but Vazquez circles away and keeps his distance.
Vazquez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Vazquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Shamroock circles away.

Vazquez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Vazquez has an Americana. Shamroock didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Vazquez is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Vazquez hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
