PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hektor Troy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Art Vandelay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Vandelay's choice of entrance music: Lithium Flower. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hektor Troy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Art Vandelay!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vandelay lands a jab-cross combination.
Art Vandelay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Troy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Troy walks into a straight right hand from Vandelay.

Vandelay gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Troy to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Troy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Troy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Troy has gone for a leg lock! Vandelay slips out almost immediately though and dives into Troy's guard.

Troy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Troy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vandelay gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Troy has his foot on Vandelay's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vandelay works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vandelay is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Let's hope that Vandelay has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vandelay wants to get up but he can't break Troy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vandelay tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Troy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Vandelay shoots for a double leg takedown but Troy sprawls well. He's pushed Vandelay's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Vandelay shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Troy pinned against the cage. Troy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Vandelay throws a head kick that misses.

Vandelay moves in looking to clinch but Troy pushes him off.

Troy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vandelay looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vandelay looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vandelay!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Troy is looking to reverse the position.
Vandelay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Troy keeps working.
Vandelay tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Vandelay connects with a body shot.

Troy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Troy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Troy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Troy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vandelay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Troy throws a jab but it's blocked by Vandelay.
Vandelay throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Vandelay tries to close the distance and clinch but Troy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Troy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vandelay's waist but Vandelay gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Troy off to one side.
Vandelay scores with a one two! Troy had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Troy feints and as Vandelay raises his hands in defense, Troy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Vandelay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Troy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vandelay moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Troy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vandelay manages to avoid it.

Vandelay moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Vandelay ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Vandelay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

so Troy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Troy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vandelay is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vandelay has escaped and now he's on top!

Hektor Troy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Troy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Troy is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vandelay is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
