PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juju Itsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pounding Ground (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juju Itsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pounding Ground!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ground dives in and grabs Itsu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Itsu pushes down on Ground's head and hops out.
Itsu misses with a takedown attempt

and Ground counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ground.
Ground is looking to work some ground and pound but Itsu has wrist control.
Ground keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Itsu's head.
Itsu lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ground!
Itsu fails to advance to Ground's back.
Ground really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Itsu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Itsu moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ground has worked his arm free - good work by Ground!
Ground tries to bench press Itsu off him but Itsu keeps the position.
Ground is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Itsu's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Itsu works his foot free and advances to mount.

Itsu trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ground is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Itsu goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ground turns into him and now he's in Itsu's guard.
Ground won't allow Itsu to sweep him here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Itsu keeping moving, preventing Ground from controlling successfully.
Itsu looking for a sweep. Not yet Itsu, not yet.
Ground must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ground in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Itsu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ground manages to get himself to full guard.
Itsu stands and throws Ground's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Itsu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Itsu is trying to get an arm triangle but Ground is defending well.
Ground is looking for a sweep.

Itsu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ground has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Itsu but great work by Ground.
Ground creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Ground in side control, throwing shots but Itsu defends.
Itsu wants to control but Ground postures up.
Ground is trying to ground and pound but Itsu uses the momentary lack of control by Ground to regain half guard.
Itsu blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ground.
Ground throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Itsu gets full guard.
Ground wants to control from the top but Itsu keeps moving.
Ground distracts Itsu with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ground accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ground working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Itsu will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Itsu is trying to control the position but Ground postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ground tries to free his leg and advance position but Itsu is retaining full guard.
Itsu tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Itsu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ground is aware though and is defending well.
Itsu preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ground trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ground scores a takedown into full mount!
Ground is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Itsu can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ground wants to control the pace but Itsu is squirming around nicely.
Ground avoids the attempt from Itsu to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pounding Ground dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Itsu shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ground counters with a nice double leg into guard.


It looks like Juju Itsu has been cut.
Ground trying to control the position from guard on top but Itsu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ground postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Ground passes Itsu's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Itsu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ground working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Itsu is trying to get back to full guard.

Ground controlling the action here.
Ground is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Itsu is not content to let Ground control the position.
Itsu taking some punishment here, with Ground in his half guard.
Itsu is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ground's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ground's back!

Ground is having to fend off submission attempts from Itsu, who is looking to sink in the choke. Itsu doesn't have the hooks in though and Ground manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Itsu bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ground's guard.

Itsu drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ground manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Itsu has Ground in his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ground pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Itsu is keeping the position for now.
Itsu controls Ground momentarily but Ground frees himself.
Ground lands a couple of digs.
Itsu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ground manages to get himself to full guard.

Itsu is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ground is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ground has escaped and now he's on top!
Ground wants to control from the top but Itsu keeps moving.

Ground controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Itsu is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ground defends well.

Itsu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pounding Ground has got the better of the ground game so far.

Itsu is controlling Ground's posture.
Ground lands a couple of elbows.
Itsu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ground is one step ahead there.

Pounding Ground showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Ground counters with a shoot takedown. Itsu fights it but they end up in guard.
Itsu wants to sweep here but Ground controlling him for the moment.

Itsu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ground defends it easily.
Ground stands up over Itsu, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Ground postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ground throws and elbow that misses. Itsu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ground's guard. Nice move by Itsu!

Itsu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ground is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Itsu tries for a kimura but Ground is defending well.
Ground is not content to let Itsu control the position.
Ground manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Itsu is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ground is in trouble now - Itsu has advanced to mount!

Itsu has control of Ground's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ground regains control of the situation pretty easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ground can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ground wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Ground rolls, trying to escape but Itsu keeps control of the position.

Itsu looking for the choke from the back.

Itsu controlling well, preventing Ground from escaping the position.

Ground defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Itsu tries to keep control of the position but Ground is staying busy.

Itsu is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ground knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ground for a finish.

Itsu is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ground defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Itsu doesn't have the hooks in and Ground manages to turn into his guard.
Juju Itsu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Itsu is trying to control the position but Ground postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Juju Itsu.
I think Ground has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
