PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladislav Uzov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Hammond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladislav Uzov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Hammond!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammond circles away from the clinch attempt.
Uzov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hammond circles away quickly and effectively.
Uzov scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hammond doesn't seem bothered though.
Uzov tries to clinch up but Hammond circles away and keeps his distance.
Hammond avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Uzov shoots for a double leg takedown but Hammond sprawls well. He's pushed Uzov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hammond dodges the punch combination from Uzov.
Vladislav Uzov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Uzov cracks Hammond with an open hand slap.
Hammond avoids the head kick by Uzov.
Uzov tries to clinch there but Hammond circles away.

and Uzov counters by clinching up.

Uzov is pressed up against the cage. Hammond has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Uzov down to the mat. Uzov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hammond fails with the takedown
and Uzov counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hammond is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Vladislav Uzov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Hammond.
Uzov scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Hammond looks gassed!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Uzov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Uzov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Uzov scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Hammond counters with a nice double leg into side control. Uzov won't be happy with that.
Uzov wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

You can see the frustration on Uzov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammond tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Uzov manages to get back to half guard.
Uzov is trying to stand back up but Hammond is controlling him

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hammond shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Uzov is trying to defend but Hammond finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Uzov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hammond working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Uzov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hammond is one step ahead there.
Hammond trying to stand up but can't free himself from Uzov's guard.

Hammond in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Uzov pulls Hammond in close to his closed guard and prevents Hammond from doing any damage or advancing position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hammond drops back looking for a leg! Uzov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Uzov manages to kick Hammond off! Hammond jumps back into Uzov's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hammond wants to stand but Uzov is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Uzov tries to close the distance and clinch but Hammond swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hammond keeps the fight on the outside.

Uzov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
An elbow from Uzov crashes against the mat.
Hammond is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Uzov asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Hammond regains half guard.

Uzov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Uzov is trying to control. Hammond wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hammond is looking to control Uzov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hammond avoid being mounted?

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hammond shoots in looking for a takedown. Uzov tries to sprawl out of it but Hammond keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Uzov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Uzov instigates a clinch.
Hammond goes for a takedown attempt but Uzov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Uzov takes the fight into the clinch.

Uzov pulls guard effortlessly.
Hammond thows a big elbow that misses.

Uzov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hammond wants to control from the top but Uzov keeps moving.
Hammond is looking to work some ground and pound but Uzov has wrist control.
Hammond stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Uzov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammond would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Uzov working for a triangle but Hammond defends it easily.

Hammond is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Uzov throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Uzov moves in looking to clinch but Hammond pushes him off.

Hammond changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Uzov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hammond tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hammond has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Uzov sneaks out the side door and pushes Hammond away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Uzov tries to clinch but Hammond moves out of range.

Uzov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hammond slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Uzov stands up over Hammond, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Uzov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hammond dives on top into guard.
Uzov keeping moving, preventing Hammond from controlling successfully.
Hammond throws and elbow that misses. Uzov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hammond's guard. Nice move by Uzov!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hammond might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Uzov kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hammond has his foot on Uzov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Uzov works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Uzov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hammond swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hammond keeps the fight on the outside.

Hammond scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hammond is nestled in close to Uzov, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Josh Hammond has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hammond wants to lay and pray for a moment but Uzov keeps working.

Hammond is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Uzov has managed to free his arm - good work.
Uzov won't allow Hammond to pass to mount.
Uzov regains full guard. Nicely done.

Uzov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hammond's guard.

Hammond escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Uzov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

I would just about give that final round to Josh Hammond.
I think Uzov has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
