PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Saurus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Saurus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Davidson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Saurus drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Saurus preventing the sweep.
Davidson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Saurus trying to control the position from guard on top but Davidson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davidson has control of Saurus's left arm, preventing Saurus from doing any damage.

Saurus is looking to work some ground and pound but Davidson has wrist control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Davidson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Saurus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Saurus wants to take a breather but Davidson is having none of it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davidson can do anything to dispel that myth.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Saurus will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Davidson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Saurus is trying to defend but Davidson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Davidson connects with a nice short shot to Saurus's temple.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Saurus fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Saurus tries to clinch but Davidson is having none of it.
Frank Saurus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

David Davidson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Davidson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
