PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bad Sam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drake comes to the cage accompanied by Blitzkrieg Bop. Bad Sam has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Nick Drake's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bad Sam!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake wants to land a leg kick but Sam is out of range.
Drake fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Sam on the side of the head.
Sam looks for a takedown but Drake sprawls well.
The fighters circling - Drake throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sam closes the distance and clinches up with Drake, looking for a takedown. Sam pushes Drake against the cage but Drake circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Drake misses with a looping right.
Drake ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Drake misses the jab.
Sam connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Drake's hands.
The crowd cheers as Drake lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sam doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Bad Sam has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nice jab there from Sam.
Sam pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sam shoots in looking for a takedown. Drake tries to sprawl out of it but Sam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drake manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nick Drake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bad Sam.
Sam lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Drake circles away quickly and effectively.
Drake slips a jab and a cross from Sam.
Sam shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nick Drake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Drake misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sam.
Sam walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Drake lands a with a good body shot.
Sam looks gassed!
Drake throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Sam counters with a takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
An elbow from Sam crashes against the mat.
Drake on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Drake tries to get out of the position.
Drake sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Drake gets back to full guard.
Sam has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Drake has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Sam trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Drake pulls Sam in close to prevent any damage.
Drake keeping moving, preventing Sam from controlling successfully.
Drake seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drake manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sam manages to get himself to full guard.

Sam is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Drake is aware though and is defending well.

Sam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Drake has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Drake cracks Sam with a solid left hand.
Drake not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sam is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Drake stays in close to Sam's body and controls the position.
Drake is working Sam over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sam escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Drake gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Drake wants to control from the top but Sam keeps moving.
Drake stands up over Sam, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Drake postures up in Sam's guard and throws a big left but Sam blocks it.
Drake content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Drake in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sam avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drake controls from within his opponent's guard.
Sam working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Drake.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Drake dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bad Sam's cut.
That's time! Drake's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Drake throws a looping overhand right but Sam ducks down to avoid it.
Sam misses with a combination
and Drake counters with a nice uppercut.
Nice body punch from Drake.
Drake bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Drake closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Sam out cold! Sam corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Nick Drake!
