PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Lidell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lidell is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Year of the Icemandog. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sammy Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Lidell!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morris defending well as Lidell loads up on a big left hand.
A head kick misses from Lidell.
Morris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lidell tries to avoid it but Morris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lidell to the ground. Lidell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lidell ducks under a wild hook from Morris.
Lidell looks to land a right hand but Morris moved out of range.
Lidell misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morris misses with an uppercut. Lidell saw that one coming.
Lidell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Morris manages to avoid it.

Morris scores with a jab. Lidell acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Lidell throws an overhand right that lands on Morris's shoulder, as Morris tries to avoid the shot.
Lidell ducks right into an uppercut from Morris.
Lidell just misses with a punch to the body.
Morris scores with a body shot.
Morris keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lidell.
A big left from Morris misses.

Morris moves out of range of the strikes.
Morris misses with a looping right.
Lidell takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Morris showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lidell.

Lidell swings away with a body shot that misses

and Morris counters with a single leg into guard. Lidell didn't expect that.

Morris stops Lidell from standing up.
Lidell keeping moving, preventing Morris from controlling successfully.
Lidell is trying to control the position but Morris postures up.
Morris's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lidell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morris. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Morris is fighting to break Lidell's control of his arms but Lidell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Lidell wants to get back to his feet but Morris is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Morris loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lidell tries to clinch up
and Morris makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Morris scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Lidell throws a left and a right that both miss
and Morris counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lidell misses with a combination
and Morris counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lidell thinking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lidell moves away from the strike by Morris.
Lidell wants to clinch but Morris slips to the side
and Morris connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Morris wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lidell, who protects the arm well.

Morris is looking to take a break and control but Lidell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Morris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lidell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Lidell wants to get back to his feet but Morris drags him back down.
Lidell is not content to let Morris control the position.
Lidell is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Morris has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Morris looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Morris wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lidell, who protects the arm well.

Morris is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lidell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lidell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Morris tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Morris is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lidell has escaped the position, nice work there.

Lidell sneaks out the side door and pushes Morris away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Chuck Lidell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lidell tries to clinch up

so Morris counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammy Morris dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Lidell falls off balance throwing a combination

and Morris counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Morris is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lidell defends it well.
Morris prevents Lidell from standing back up.
Morris looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lidell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Morris is keen to just control but Lidell is a slippery customer.
Morris scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Morris seems to be working for a kimura but Lidell defends the submission attempt.

Morris is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lidell is just riding it out for now. Morris eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Morris uses his free foot to push down on Lidell's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lidell.
Lidell is trying desperately to improve position.

Morris is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lidell has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morris with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Sammy Morris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Morris is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lidell is surviving well by controlling Morris's body position as best he can.

Morris has hold of Lidell's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lidell manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Morris wants to finish this one by submission but Lidell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Morris.

Lidell wants to control but Morris is having none of it.
You get the feeling that Lidell really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Morris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lidell can do to turn this around?

Chuck Lidell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Morris is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Lidell is forced to tap! Great finish!
