PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bepo Kroner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baekjae Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim comes into a darkened arena with his song building. CANON in D Korean Version (with gayageum) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bepo Kroner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Baekjae Kim!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kroner scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Kim is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kroner pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kim manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kroner pushes down on Kim's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kroner seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Kroner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kim defends it well.

Kroner is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kim sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kroner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kim.

Kim creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kroner sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Kroner is looking to regain half guard here but Kim keeps moving and retains side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kim is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kroner sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kroner scores with a one two! Kim had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bepo Kroner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kroner wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Kroner wants to get back to his feet but Kim is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kim has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kim throws a big right hand that misses.
Kim wants to control from the top but Kroner keeps moving.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kim shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kroner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kim looks to throw the jab but Kroner is out of range.

Kroner is looking for a sweep. Kim is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kim lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Baekjae Kim has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kim wants to take a breather but Kroner is having none of it.

Kim is looking for a kimura but Kroner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kim to get the leverage.
Kroner wants to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kroner shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kim manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kroner wants to pass the guard but Kim is keeping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kim wants to sweep here but Kroner controlling him for the moment.

Kroner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kim is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kroner tries to pass to full mount but Kim defends it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kim is staying active underneath Kroner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kroner gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Kroner scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Kroner wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

and Kim counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kroner won't be happy with that.
Kroner can't do much from the bottom here.

Kim working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Kim working over Kroner with some ground and pound. Kroner looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Kroner connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kroner lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kroner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kim working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kroner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kroner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kroner is looking to stand up but Kim won't let him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kroner is sitting in close to Kim's body. Kim has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kroner is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kroner is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Kim.
