PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sid Sydney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brunson Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doyle has chosen On To The Next One as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sid Sydney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brunson Doyle!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sydney slips a jab and a cross from Doyle.
Sydney thows a body shot but no joy.
Sydney walks into a straight right hand from Doyle.
Brunson Doyle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sydney.
Doyle lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sydney circles away quickly and effectively.
Doyle thows a left - swing and a miss!
Doyle misses with a straight left.

Sydney looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Sydney stands and throws Doyle's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sydney throws a strike aimed at the side of Doyle's head but Doyle avoids it well.

Sydney wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Doyle, who protects the arm well.
Sydney is looking to take a break and control but Doyle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doyle is trying to get back to half guard.
Doyle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sydney. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Doyle can't do much from the bottom here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sydney gets to mount! Doyle was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Sydney is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Doyle has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Doyle!
Doyle trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sydney's guard.

Sydney wants to sweep but no luck.
Sydney looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Doyle puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sydney tries to get to full guard but Doyle has control of the leg.
Doyle is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sydney is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Doyle seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Sydney is looking for a sweep. Doyle is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sydney slips under a jab from Doyle.
Doyle throws an overhand right that lands on Sydney's shoulder, as Sydney tries to avoid the shot.
Doyle scores with a nice head shot.
Sydney throws a leg kick but Doyle sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Doyle looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Sydney moves out of range as Doyle strikes.
Sydney shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brunson Doyle dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Sydney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Doyle tries to avoid it but Sydney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Doyle to the ground. Doyle escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A combination from Sydney does no damage.
Doyle throws a shot from downtown. Sydney moves away and avoids it.
Doyle swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Sydney counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Sydney wants to control from the top but Doyle keeps moving.
Sydney controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sydney drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Doyle dives on top into guard.
Doyle not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sydney is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sydney pulls Doyle in close to prevent any damage.
Sydney wants to sweep but no luck.

Doyle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sydney has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Doyle has managed to get both his arms back between Sydney's legs - danger averted.
Sydney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doyle is one step ahead there.
Doyle is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sydney controls Doyle momentarily but Doyle frees himself.

Doyle stands up from Sydney's guard - Doyle perhaps looking for a knockout.
Sydney shoots for a double leg takedown but Doyle sprawls well. He's pushed Sydney's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doyle misses with a jab to the body

and Sydney counters with a nice double leg into side control. Doyle won't be happy with that.

Sydney thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Doyle wants to control but Sydney postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Sydney dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Doyle misses with a double jab

and Sydney counters with a nice double leg into side control. Doyle won't be happy with that.
Doyle regains half guard there - taking advantage of Sydney's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Sydney wants to free his trapped foot but Doyle is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Doyle blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sydney.

Sydney seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Doyle does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Doyle wants to improve his position but Sydney is controlling well.

Sydney seems to be working for a kimura but Doyle defends the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sydney keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Doyle.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Doyle throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Sydney counters with a good low kick that Doyle was not able to check.
Good shot there by Doyle.


It looks like Sid Sydney has been cut.
Sydney closes this distance looking for a takedown but Doyle circles away.
Doyle throws a hook but Sydney avoids it easily.
Sid Sydney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Doyle misses with a body punch
and Sydney counters with a one-two to the body.
Doyle scores with a nice head shot.
Doyle walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Sydney drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Doyle swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Sydney's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brunson Doyle!
