PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blake Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Case (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gray comes into the arena with "Beautiful Dangerous" by Slash blaring out of the sound system. Case has chosen Aki & Turo - Mahtisonni as his entrance music. Blake Gray has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Blake Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Case!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gray throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Case shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gray napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Gray tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Case wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Case working the ground and pound but Gray is defending the strikes.
Gray pushes Case away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Case gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Case has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
An elbow from Case crashes against the mat.
Case happy to just control the position for now.
Gray managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Case.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Gray tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gray gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Case counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Case controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Case postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Case is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gray utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Case pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gray is keeping the position for now.
Gray keeping moving, preventing Case from controlling successfully.
Case's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Case lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Case content to stall in guard here.
Gray trying to keep a closed guard but Case is proving a slippery customer.
Case is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gray tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Case throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gray works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Case trying to control the position from guard on top but Gray is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gray controls Case momentarily but Case frees himself.
Case is looking to work some ground and pound but Gray has wrist control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Case clinches with his opponent.
Case looking for a takedown.

Case has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gray uses from the top position.
Gray trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Case is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Gray stands up from Case's guard - Gray perhaps looking for a knockout.
Gray tries to close the distance and clinch up but Case swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Blake Gray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Case shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gray pinned against the cage. Gray gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Case jabs Gray right on the nose. Gray blinks but takes it well.
Gray stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gray wants it to stay on the feet.
Blake Gray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Case.

Case changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gray looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gray is not content to let Case control the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Case shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Case throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Case with the ground and pound but Gray uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Case throwing strikes from guard but Gray blocks nicely.
Case is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Case trying to control but Gray is working from the bottom.

Case looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Case thows a big elbow that misses.
Gray keeping moving, preventing Case from controlling successfully.

Case is working Gray over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Case passes into half guard.
Case performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Gray slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Case trying to control but Gray is working from the bottom.

The strikes coming from Case are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Justin Case has got the better of the ground game so far.

Despite being in the dominant position, Justin Case just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Case shoots for a double leg takedown but Gray sprawls well. He's pushed Case's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gray closes the distance looking to clinch
and Case counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Case fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gray sprawls well initially but Case persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Case thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gray's head.
Gray is looking for a sweep. Case is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Case stalling.

Well, if Case is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Case showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Case shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gray manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Gray regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Case.

Case is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fight stays on the outside here - Gray looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Justin Case is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Blake Gray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Justin Case comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Case has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
