PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Grappler Striking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gee Damn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grappler Striking!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gee Damn!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damn shoots in looking for a takedown. Striking tries to sprawl out of it but Damn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Striking manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A clash of legs there as Damn blocks the low kick.
Damn fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Striking misses with a low kick.
Striking looks for a takedown but Damn sprawls well.
Striking throws and low kick but Damn moves out of range easily.
Damn has his takedown stuffed
and Striking counters with an inside leg kick.
Grappler Striking has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gee Damn.

Striking trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Damn manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Damn got a little sloppy there for a moment and Striking has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Damn has managed to get both his arms back between Striking's legs - danger averted.

Damn stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Damn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Damn tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Striking.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Damn decides to stand up.

Striking looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Striking is looking to work some ground and pound but Damn has wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Damn is on top in guard.

Striking looking for a guillotine here but Damn defends easily.
Striking is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Damn trying to stand up but can't free himself from Striking's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Striking escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Damn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Striking tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Damn wants to stand but Striking is controlling his posture from full guard.

Damn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Striking, up you get!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Damn misses with a takedown attempt
and Striking counters with a thumping low kick.
Damn misses with a takedown

and Striking counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Striking missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Striking throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Striking is looking for a kimura here.
Striking misses with a head shot. Damn uses the momentum to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grappler Striking dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Damn tries for a takedown but Striking circles away easily

so Striking counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Damn looking for a sweep. Not yet Damn, not yet.
Damn pulls Striking in close to prevent any damage.
Striking connects with a couple of short punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Damn trying to control the position.

Striking has gone for a leg lock! Damn slips out almost immediately though and dives into Striking's guard.
Damn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Striking is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Striking working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Damn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Damn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Damn preventing the sweep.

Striking looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Damn gets to his feet - Striking follows without any prompting.
Gee Damn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Damn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gee Damn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Damn shoots and misses
and Striking counters with a slapping leg kick.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Damn takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Damn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Striking in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grappler Striking dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

It looks like Gee Damn has been cut.
Damn has his takedown stuffed
and Striking counters with a nice uppercut.
Striking shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Damn sprawls well. Damn wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Striking gets slowly back to his feet.
Damn misses with a takedown attempt
and Striking counters with a good low kick that Damn was not able to check.
Damn has his takedown stuffed
and Striking counters with a nice body shot.
Grappler Striking has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gee Damn.
Striking tries to score with a low kick but Damn moves his leg out of the way.

Damn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Striking is pressing down on Damn's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Striking is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Striking is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Damn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Striking throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Damn is trying to stand back up but Striking is controlling him

Damn moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Striking stopping the sweep attempt from Damn.
Striking passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Damn tries to buck Striking off but Striking is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Striking throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Damn works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Striking throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Damn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Damn.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Striking throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Damn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Striking throwing strikes from guard but Damn blocks nicely.
Damn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Damn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but Grappler Striking did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The cut man is working on Gee Damn's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Striking in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Striking looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Damn is avoiding damage well.
Striking throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Striking tries for a kimura but Damn is defending well.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
Damn manages to get back to half guard.
Striking has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Striking thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Damn to regain full guard.
Striking is fighting to break Damn's control of his arms but Damn is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Damn wants to stand and escape but Striking is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Damn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Striking's guard.
Damn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Striking is working an open guard so Damn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Damn fails with the takedown
and Striking counters with a head kick. That will keep Damn thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Striking looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Damn!
Damn is trying desperately to improve position.

Striking thowing shots but they're missing.
Damn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Striking sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

BOOM! Striking connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Damn taking shots to the head.
Striking avoids the attempt from Damn to control.
Striking with good strikes from the mount here!
Grappler Striking overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Damn regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grappler Striking had his way with Gee Damn in that round.
The cut man is working on Gee Damn's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Striking shoots in and bounces Damn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Striking with a flurry of punches that miss.
Striking throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Damn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Damn looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Striking drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Damn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Striking has Damn in his guard.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Striking is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gee Damn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Striking counters with a single leg into guard. Damn didn't expect that.
Damn looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Striking puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Striking is working for a submission of some sort.
Striking is nestled in close to Damn, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Striking has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
