PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Finklestein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fedor Finklestein!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Finklestein shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kelly as he avoids it easily.

Finklestein darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kelly manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kelly manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Finklestein manages to get himself to full guard.
Finklestein keeping moving, preventing Kelly from controlling successfully.
Finklestein is trying to keep Kelly in close.
Kelly in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Finklestein wants to sweep here but Kelly controlling him for the moment.
Finklestein is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Finklestein has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kelly is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Finklestein.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Finklestein looks to land a body kick but Kelly moved away.

Finklestein shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Finklestein throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Finklestein goes for an armbar but Kelly turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kelly.
Finklestein tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kelly passes into half guard.
Kelly sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Finklestein defending well though.
Finklestein is trying to maintain the position but Kelly is very close to passing his half guard.

Finklestein tries to get to full guard but Kelly has control of the leg.
Kelly thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Finklestein's head.

Kelly lands strikes from half guard.
Kelly wants to pass the guard but Finklestein is defending well.
Kelly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Finklestein keeps working.
Finklestein tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Finklestein is staying active underneath Kelly, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Finklestein tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Kelly has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Kelly can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Finklestein is looking to escape.
Finklestein is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kelly looking for a guillotine from mount but Finklestein is having none of it.
Finklestein really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Finklestein tries to control the position but Kelly now has his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Finklestein is trying to break free.
Kelly struggling to keep hold of the position.

Kelly looking for the choke but no joy.
Finklestein manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kelly's guard. Nice work there by Finklestein.

Kelly has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Finklestein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kelly looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Finklestein's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ken Kelly will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kelly thows a left - swing and a miss!

Finklestein shoots in and bounces Kelly off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kelly trying to keep a closed guard but Finklestein is proving a slippery customer.
Kelly is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Finklestein is controlling him.
Finklestein trying to control the position from guard on top but Kelly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Finklestein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kelly swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kelly working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Finklestein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Finklestein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Finklestein is working Kelly over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Finklestein throws a big right hand that misses.

Kelly has his foot on Finklestein's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Finklestein works his way back into a safe position though.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Finklestein tries to free his leg and advance position but Kelly is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Finklestein in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Finklestein won't allow Kelly to sweep him here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kelly misses with a jab, cross combination.
Finklestein throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelly's waist but Kelly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Finklestein off to one side.
Finklestein fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kelly lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Finklestein at a distance.

Finklestein is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kelly's half guard.
Finklestein throws a strike but Kelly avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Kelly keeping moving, preventing Finklestein from controlling successfully.
Finklestein trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Kelly is trying to keep Finklestein in close.
Kelly seems keen to control Finklestein's posture.

Kelly is looking for a triangle but Finklestein pushes his legs off easily.
Finklestein throws and elbow that misses. Kelly uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Finklestein's guard. Nice move by Kelly!
Finklestein will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Kelly drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kelly jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Finklestein is trying to control the position but Kelly postures up.
Finklestein tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kelly working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kelly loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kelly postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck for Finklestein with that takedown attempt.
Ken Kelly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Finklestein.
Finklestein tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kelly swivels and escapes.

Kelly clinches with his opponent.

Kelly has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Finklestein is trying to keep an underhook but Kelly manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Kelly is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Kelly looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Kelly dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Kelly ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Finklestein moves away.
Finklestein moves forwards but Kelly connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Finklestein throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelly's waist but Kelly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Finklestein off to one side.
Fedor Finklestein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Finklestein takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Good shot there by Kelly.
Finklestein shoots for a double leg takedown but Kelly sprawls well. He's pushed Finklestein's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Finklestein needs to keep his hands up - Kelly had a free shot at his head there.
Finklestein throws a leg kick but Kelly checks it.
Kelly scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


Finklestein is rocked!
Kelly throws an uppercut from hell that sends Finklestein clean off his feet! He's out cold! Kelly stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ken Kelly!
