Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joan Calderon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny LaRusso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joan Calderon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny LaRusso!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LaRusso is looking to clinch.
LaRusso showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Calderon.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - LaRusso has eaten all the pies!
LaRusso wants to clinch.
LaRusso fails with an attempt to clinch.
LaRusso is looking to clinch.

LaRusso closes the distance and clinches.
Calderon fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Calderon tries to pull guard but LaRusso holds him up against the cage and eventually Calderon drops back down to his feet.
LaRusso managing to block the knees to the body from Calderon.
Calderon tries for a takedown but LaRusso manages to get underhooks.
Calderon is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Calderon blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Calderon lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
LaRusso tries to land knees in the clinch but Calderon avoids the damage to the body.

Calderon jumps guard and drags LaRusso to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
LaRusso has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Calderon is proving hard to escape from.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Calderon manages to escape and get back to his feet.
LaRusso tries to clinch but Calderon moves out of range.
Calderon closes the distance and clinches up with LaRusso, looking for a takedown. Calderon pushes LaRusso against the cage but LaRusso circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joan Calderon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Calderon swats away the attempt to clinch by LaRusso.
LaRusso tries to close the distance and clinch but Calderon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
LaRusso fails with an attempt to clinch.
Calderon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but LaRusso swivels and escapes.
LaRusso tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

LaRusso wants to clinch.
LaRusso tries to clinch but Calderon is having none of it.
Calderon misses with a jab, cross combination.

Calderon clinches with his opponent.

Calderon breaks from the clinch.
Calderon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

LaRusso tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Calderon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for LaRusso!
LaRusso is squirming around, avoiding Calderon's attempts to control the action.
Calderon is breathing heavily.
LaRusso wants to try and get back to his feet.
Calderon postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. LaRusso looks a forlorn figure.

Calderon lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Calderon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
LaRusso wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calderon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of LaRusso's face.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
LaRusso is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Calderon postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. LaRusso looks a forlorn figure.

Calderon is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Calderon forces LaRusso back against the cage and clinches.

Calderon drags the fight down to the ground.

Calderon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and LaRusso defends well.

LaRusso stands up from Calderon's guard - LaRusso perhaps looking for a knockout.

LaRusso fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Calderon, pushing him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Calderon looking to stall.

LaRusso tries to land knees in the clinch but Calderon avoids the damage to the body.
LaRusso misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Calderon.

Calderon drags the fight down to the ground.

LaRusso gets to his feet - Calderon follows without any prompting.
LaRusso closes the distance looking to clinch

and Calderon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Calderon has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
LaRusso's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joan Calderon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


LaRusso tries to clinch but Calderon moves away

and Calderon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Calderon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but LaRusso does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
LaRusso wants to get back to his feet.
LaRusso is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Calderon in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. LaRusso tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Calderon!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Joan Calderon!
