PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clayton Kosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lu Yu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kosh's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Song 2. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yu lands with an uppercut that bounces Kosh off the cage and back into rage.


It looks like Clayton Kosh has been cut.
Yu takes a body punch but keeps moving.
No joy there for Yu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Yu fails to land with a series of punches.
Yu will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Kosh on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kosh wants to control for a moment but Yu uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Kosh is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kosh looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Yu swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kosh makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Yu throws a leg kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yu lands with a shot to the body.
Kosh misses with a low kick.
Kosh connects with a single shot there.
Kosh fails with a takedown attempt.
Lu Yu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

enabling Kosh to counter with a crisp jab.

Kosh shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Yu's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Kosh goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Yu is on top in guard.
Yu wants to stand but Kosh has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Kosh wants to sweep here but Yu controlling him for the moment.
Yu wants to get up but he can't break Kosh's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kosh has Yu pulled in close to control his posture.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Yu is looking to stand up but Kosh won't let him.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clayton Kosh will probably get the nod.

Kosh feints and as Yu raises his hands in defense, Kosh changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kosh wants to control from the top but Yu keeps moving.
Kosh prevents Yu from getting back to his feet.
Kosh trying to control the position from guard on top but Yu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

and Kosh connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Yu swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kosh counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Yu takes one to the chin there.
Kosh slips under a jab.
Yu is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Kosh rather than just go for the knockout.

Kosh loads up on a big right hand but Yu slips the punch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kosh, as that shot connected.

A jab lands there for Kosh.
Kosh cracks a nice hook into Yu's ribs.
Kosh lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Yu takes one on the button.
Kosh fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Yu on the side of the head.
Lu Yu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kosh connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Yu throws a shot from downtown. Kosh moves away and avoids it.
Yu swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Kosh cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Yu swings away with a body shot that misses
and Kosh counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kosh lands a body shot.
Yu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kosh throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Yu stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Yu misses with a double jab
and Kosh connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A decent looking cross lands there for Kosh.

Kosh feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kosh forces his way into half guard.
Kosh is taking a breather. Yu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kosh is keen to just control but Yu is a slippery customer.

Well Kosh has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
