Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kang has chosen Black Mass as his entrance music. Demian Kang has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Matt Hughes's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Demian Kang!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hughes.
Kang scores with a jab. Hughes acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kang scores with a sloppy right hand. Hughes should have avoided that one.
Kang tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hughes was well out of range. Poor timing from Kang.
Kang takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A jab from Hughes misses.
Hughes lands with an overhand left.


It looks like Demian Kang has been cut.
Hughes misses the shot to the body.
Kang steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hughes.
Kang moves out of range as Hughes strikes.
Hughes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Hughes misses the target.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kang napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Kang tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hughes wants to control but Kang is keeping him busy.

Hughes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kang is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hughes in particular looking to stall.

Hughes wants to work for an arm triangle but Kang is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes is looking to advance position but Kang won't allow it.
Kang is concentrating on defense, preventing Hughes from advancing position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hughes throws a hook but Kang blocks it.
Hughes dodges the punch combination from Kang.
Kang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hughes as he avoids it easily.
Kang ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Kang throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kang scores with a shot to the body.
Kang loads up on a big right hand but Hughes slips the punch.
Kang slips under a jab.
Hughes throws a sloppy body shot
and Kang counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Hughes swings for the body but Kang moves out of range.
Hughes walks into a left hand.
A shot to the body from Hughes misses

and Kang counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hughes!

Kang goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hughes turns into him and now he's in Kang's guard.
Kang seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kang is trying to control the position but Hughes postures up.
Kang is pulling down on Hughes's head. It's preventing any offense from Hughes, at least for the moment.
Kang keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hughes stays in close to Kang's body and controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Hughes will probably get the nod.

Kang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hughes throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kang throws an overhand right that lands on Hughes's shoulder, as Hughes tries to avoid the shot.
Kang takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Kang is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hughes is aware though and is defending well.
Kang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hughes lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hughes thows a big elbow that misses.
Hughes throws and elbow that misses. Kang uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Kang!
Hughes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kang uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hughes.

Kang throws a lazy right hand but Hughes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Kang connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kang clobbers Hughes with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hughes lands a jab to the head.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Kang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hughes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hughes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kang wants to control the position but Hughes says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Hughes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hughes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kang knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hughes working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Hughes looking to control but Kang is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kang wants to control but Hughes is having none of it.
Hughes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hughes tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Kang.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kang throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease.

Demian Kang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kang lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hughes circles away quickly and effectively.

Hughes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kang's guard.

Hughes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kang tries to free his leg and advance position but Hughes is retaining full guard.

Hughes is looking to take a break and control but Kang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Demian Kang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matt Hughes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kang is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard.
Matt Hughes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hughes moves into full mount! Kang won't be happy about that!

Hughes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kang's face.

Well Hughes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
