PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomas Kalnocky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tomas Kalnocky!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Kalnocky tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kalnocky manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kalnocky is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Jones.
Jones throws out a loose jab but Kalnocky uses good head movement to avoid it.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones is really struggling to control Kalnocky but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Kalnocky is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kalnocky tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Kalnocky, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Kalnocky against the cage but Kalnocky circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jones blocks an elbow strike.
Kalnocky using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jones has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kalnocky pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kalnocky wants to clinch.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Kalnocky sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kalnocky is looking to clinch.
Kalnocky stuffs the takedown.
Kalnocky tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kalnocky looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kalnocky walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jones.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jones shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kalnocky defends it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jon Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Kalnocky is defending well.

Jones is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kalnocky to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kalnocky shrugs it off.

Jones moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kalnocky has worked his arm free - good work by Kalnocky!
Kalnocky is looking for a sweep.
Kalnocky is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jones asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Kalnocky managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Jones.

Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kalnocky knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jones working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kalnocky is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.
Jones not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Jones wants to advance to full mount but Kalnocky doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kalnocky utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Kalnocky is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Jones looks for the body kick but Kalnocky saw that one coming.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jon Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
