PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurtiz Larper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurtiz Larper!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Larper shoots in and bounces Liddell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Larper wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Larper thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Larper trying to stand up but can't free himself from Liddell's guard.
Larper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Liddell is keeping the position for now.
Liddell keeping moving, preventing Larper from controlling successfully.

Larper passes Liddell's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Larper throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Liddell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice shot lands for Liddell.
Chuck Liddell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Liddell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Larper.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Larper is defended easily by Liddell.

Liddell works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Larper on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kurtiz Larper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liddell throws a right and a left that Larper avoids nicely.
Larper tries to clinch there but Liddell circles away.
Liddell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Liddell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Larper goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Liddell swats away the attempt to clinch by Larper.
Liddell fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Larper looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Larper will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kurtiz Larper.
Liddell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Larper.
Liddell fails to land with a series of punches.
Larper walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Liddell checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Left hook, right uppercut from Liddell.
Liddell looks to land a combination but Larper avoids it well.

Liddell throws a series of punches but Larper avoids them all with ease.
A nice combination there by Liddell.

Liddell avoids a series of strikes thrown by Larper.

Liddell defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Larper.
Larper throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Larper has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Larper is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Liddell has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Liddell tests Larper's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Larper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Larper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Liddell paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Larper throws a leg kick but Liddell moved away.
Larper misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Larper closes the distance and clinches.
Liddell is trying to break the clinch but Larper has him pressed against the cage.

Larper breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Liddell is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Larper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Liddell to the mat! Liddell manages to get full guard.
Liddell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Larper is controlling him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Larper postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Larper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Liddell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Larper wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.
Liddell wants to get back to his feet but Larper is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Larper is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Liddell wants to stand up but Larper is controlling him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Larper takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Larper.
Larper is looking to take a break and control but Liddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Larper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Liddell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Larper is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Larper wants to control but Liddell is keeping him busy.

Kurtiz Larper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Liddell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Liddell catches Larper with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Larper shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Liddell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Larper creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Liddell sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Liddell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Liddell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Larper on the ground.
Larper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Liddell keeps working.

Larper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Larper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Liddell is not content to let Larper control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Liddell lands with a hook. Larper tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Larper tries for a takedown but Liddell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Liddell moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Liddell ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Liddell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Larper.

Larper has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Liddell lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Larper backs up against the cage.
Liddell is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Liddell's corner calls for a 1-2. Liddell obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Larper looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Liddell is fending him off so far but Larper persists. Nope, Liddell circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice straight punches there by Liddell. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Liddell.

Larper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Larper has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Liddell lands with an uppercut that bounces Larper off the cage and back into rage.
Liddell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Liddell moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Larper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Larper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Larper is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Liddell to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Liddell shrugs it off.
