PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alistar Astyages (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Markus Vinicius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Markus Vinicius!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Astyages misses with a hook.
Vinicius throws a right hand that Astyages ducks under and follows up with a left that Astyages also avoids with ease.
Astyages fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Astyages lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Astyages works Vinicius's body with a nice hook.
Astyages throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Astyages fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Vinicius throws a right and a left that both miss.
Vinicius throws a series of punches but Astyages moves out of range.

Astyages closes the distance and pushes Vinicius back into the cage.
Vinicius is working for takedown but Astyages is calmly controlling the position for now.
Astyages has Vinicius pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Vinicius manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistar Astyages. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Astyages drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Vinicius misses with an elbow over the top.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Vinicius just misses with a elbow thrown towards Astyages's brow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Astyages goes for a takedown in the clinch but Vinicius prevents it.

Astyages has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Vinicius is trying to keep an underhook but Astyages manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Vinicius wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Astyages is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Vinicius sees it coming and defends easily.
Well, if Astyages is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Vinicius wants to get back to his feet.
Vinicius is staying active underneath Astyages, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Astyages is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Vinicius is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Vinicius is trying to stand.
Well, if Astyages is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Vinicius wants to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Astyages feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Astyages slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Astyages is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Vinicius looks calm but he's in trouble here. Astyages gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Vinicius is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Astyages lets go of the hold and Vinicius can pop his arm back in it's socket.
