PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Deniz Koc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Bjerke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benny Bjerke told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Deniz Koc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bjerke swats away the attempt to clinch by Koc.
Koc wants to clinch up but Bjerke keeps it at a distance.
Koc shoots for a takedown but Bjerke saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bjerke stuffs the takedown attempt from Koc. Koc gets slowly back to his feet.

A big head kick from Bjerke and Koc is sent sprawling to the canvas!

Koc is rocked!

It looks like Deniz Koc has been cut.
Bjerke pushes down on Koc's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Oh Koc is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koc is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Bjerke pulls his head out easily.
Koc seems to have got his legs back now.
Bjerke with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Bjerke wants to control but Koc is keeping him busy.
It looks like Bjerke is going to stand back up.
Bjerke is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Bjerke wants to stand but Koc has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Koc trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Bjerke manages to pass to mount!
Koc is looking to improve his position but Bjerke isn't that keen on the idea.
Koc is breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bjerke wants to control the pace but Koc is squirming around nicely.

Bjerke gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Koc throws a leg kick but Bjerke sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Bjerke is looking to clinch.
Bjerke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Koc rushes Bjerke and presses him up against the cage.

Bjerke digs a right hand underneath Koc's ribcage. Koc let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Bjerke throws a knee to the head but misses.
Nice body punch from Bjerke.
Bjerke tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Koc blocking some punches.
Bjerke misses with a knee strike.
Koc managing to block the knees to the body from Bjerke.

Bjerke trying to stall but Koc improves his position.

Koc jumps guard and drags Bjerke to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Koc is looking for a triangle but Bjerke pushes his legs off easily.
Bjerke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bjerke has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Koc to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Bjerke is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Koc pulls down on the head and he's put Bjerke to sleep! This one is all over!
