The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gro checks a leg kick.
Cheng throws a front kick aimed at Gro's knee but Gro avoids it well.

Gro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cheng has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gro has managed to get both his arms back between Cheng's legs - danger averted.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gro can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cheng takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Cheng fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Gro checks it well.

Cheng feints and then cracks Gro's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gro down.

Gro moves in looking to clinch but Cheng pushes him off.

Cheng pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gro is out of range and Cheng settles back down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gro tries to clinch up but Cheng circles away and keeps his distance.

Cheng tests Gro's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cheng throws a wild body kick that Gro sees coming a mile off.
Cheng misses with a few strikes there.
Cheng throws a solid leg kick but Gro takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Cheng.

Cheng lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Gro fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cheng.
Gro tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Cheng paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Gro counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Gro tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Cheng paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cheng closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gro is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Cheng has hold of Gro's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gro tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Cheng cranks the arm and Gro screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gro, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
