The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirves tries to bum rush Kekkonen with a series of wild strikes but Kekkonen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kekkonen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kirves.
Kekkonen throws a leg kick which misses Kirves's front leg but catches the back leg as Kirves tries to avoid it.
Kirves swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kekkonen wants to clinch up but Kirves keeps it at a distance.
Kirves lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kekkonen circles away quickly and effectively.

and Kirves counters with a straight right hand.
Kekkonen throws a series of punches but Kirves moves out of range.
Urho Kekkonen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kekkonen drops his hands momentarily. Kirves doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Kekkonen staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Kekkonen doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
