Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
guy leaves Ernie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ernie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from guy. No joy for Ernie on that attempt.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from guy.

Ernie drops down looking for an ankle pick but guy pulls his leg out and moves away.
Ernie takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Ernie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but guy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ernie has guy in his guard.

guy wants to control from the top but Ernie keeps moving.
guy drops back looking for a leg! Ernie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ernie manages to kick guy off! guy jumps back into Ernie's guard.

Ernie has an active guard here but guy has managed to pass into half guard.

Ernie is trying to defend against the ground and pound but guy scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ernie is refusing to be controlled, as guy sits in half guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ernie can do anything to dispel that myth.
guy distracts Ernie with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
guy is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Ernie has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. guy is looking to defend but Ernie has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for guy! Ernie pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, guy taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bert Ernie! Bert Ernie retains his bantamweight title!
