Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Burgens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sam Burgens has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Burgens!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Silva content to control rather than advance.
Burgens trying to control from the bottom.
Silva prevents Burgens from improving his position.
Silva is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Burgens is pressing down on Silva's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Silva stays in close to Burgens's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burgens wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Burgens regains half guard.

Burgens kicks Silva off and gets back to his feet.

Silva closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burgens to the mat! Burgens manages to get full guard.
Burgens wants to sweep but no luck.

Burgens manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.

Burgens gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Burgens finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Burgens was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Burgens keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Silva looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Burgens closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Burgens getting side control.

Burgens is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Silva is not content to let Burgens control the position.

Burgens is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Silva has escaped the position, nice work there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Silva is trying to control Burgens's posture but Burgens avoids it.
Silva is looking to reverse the position.

Sloppy strikes there by Burgens.
Silva tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Burgens wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Silva is trying to escape the position but Burgens is controlling the position.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burgens on the ground.
Burgens in side control, throwing shots but Silva defends.
Burgens tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Burgens is breathing heavily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burgens is on top in guard.
Silva is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Burgens pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burgens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

A close second round but Sam Burgens will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Burgens looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Burgens has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though.
Silva is pushing down on Burgens's leg trying to pass to half guard. Burgens is fighting to maintain full guard but Silva has managed to sneak the leg through.
Burgens moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, if Silva is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
