The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zombie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Diaz is thwarting Zombie's attempts to control the position.
Diaz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Diaz is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Zombie has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Zombie connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Diaz momentarily.

Zombie jabs Diaz right on the nose. Diaz blinks but takes it well.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Zombie tries to sprawl out of it but Diaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zombie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Zombie has Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz is pressed up against the cage. Zombie has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Diaz down to the mat. Diaz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Diaz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Zombie's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz prevents Zombie from getting back to his feet.

Zombie will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Zombie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zombie wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment.
Zombie controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
Diaz stops Zombie from standing up.
Zombie working a defensive guard but Diaz manages to pass into side control anyway.

Zombie pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Zombie drives through and clinches with Diaz against the cage.
Diaz tries to score a body lock takedown but Zombie shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Diaz gets control of Zombie's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diaz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Zombie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zombie has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Zombie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Zombie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Zombie rushes Diaz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Well,Diaz is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?

Zombie escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Canadian Zombie seems to be getting the better of the standup.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zombie's waist but Zombie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.

Diaz tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Diaz wants to hold on but Zombie pushes him away.
Diaz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Zombie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Zombie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
