The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cates.
Cates misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Huston shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Huston trying to control the action but Cates is working from the bottom.
Huston uses his free foot to push down on Cates's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cates.
Huston can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cates is looking to escape.

Huston might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cates kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Despite being in the dominant position, Justin Huston just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Huston closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Huston lands in his opponent's guard.
Huston looks gassed!

Huston wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cates's closed guard. He's half up but Cates has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cates pivots and extends the arm, Huston falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cates! Well done that man!
