PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Remote Control (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Hawkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawkins has chosen Cockney Rejects - I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Remote Control!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Hawkins!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawkins fails with the takedown.
Hawkins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Control pinned against the cage. Control gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hawkins gets caught flat footed, as Control shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Control thows a big elbow that misses.
Hawkins wants to sweep here but Control controlling him for the moment.
Control trying to control but Hawkins is working from the bottom.
Control in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hawkins avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Control lands a couple of elbows.
Control is working Hawkins over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Control tries a head kick but it misses.

Hawkins slips a jab from Control.
Hawkins shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Control decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hawkins's guard.
Remote Control has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Hawkins.
Control postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Control got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hawkins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Control has managed to get both his arms back between Hawkins's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Control is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Control tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawkins is retaining full guard.

Hawkins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Control doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Control manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Control shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hawkins napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Control is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Control wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawkins keeps working.
Hawkins tries to bench press Control off him but Control keeps the position.
Hawkins is working to avoid the ground and pound but Control connects with a decent elbow.
Control scoring with punches and elbows.

Control stands up.
Control fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hawkins misses with a takedown
and Control counters with a nice uppercut.
A head kick misses from Control.

Control feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Control is trying to control. Hawkins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Control landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Control counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hawkins!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Remote Control dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hawkins throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Control was covering up waiting for the punch and Hawkins finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hawkins passes into half guard.
Remote Control overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Control tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Control wants to get back to full guard.

Hawkins looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Control is staying active underneath Hawkins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Control is pressing down on Hawkins's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Control shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hawkins's guard.

Control drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Control jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Control shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hawkins sprawls well. Hawkins wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Control gets slowly back to his feet.

Hawkins is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Control working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Control is in close to Hawkins's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Hawkins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Control defends well.
Control keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hawkins's head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Control closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hawkins to the mat! Hawkins manages to get full guard.

Remote Control is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Hawkins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Control controls the pace.

Remote Control showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Control has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
