PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Oliver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quentin Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cane comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Alice In Chains - Man In The Box kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Quentin Cane was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Oliver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quentin Cane!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliver wants to land a leg kick but Cane is out of range.
Oliver fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cane throws a looping overhand right but Oliver ducks down to avoid it.
Oliver ducks right into an uppercut from Cane.
Oliver keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cane misses with a straight left.
No luck for Oliver with that takedown attempt.
Cane cracks Oliver with a right hand to the side of the head.
Oliver looks to land a combination but Cane avoids it well.
Cane throws out a powerful jab.
A head kick misses from Oliver.
Oliver walks into a stiff left hand from Cane.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cane stuns Oliver with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Cane tests Oliver's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cane changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Oliver is breathing heavily.
Cane lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Cane shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cane showed some decent athleticism there.
Cane is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cane looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cane trying to control the action but Oliver is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cane thows a huge punch but Oliver dodges it nicely.
Cane thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Oliver's head.
Cane thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cane throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Oliver staying out of range there.
Oliver tries to clinch but Cane moves out of range.
Cane scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Cane lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Oliver takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Oliver walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Cane scores with a shot to the body.
Cane scoring well with a low kick there.
Cane paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cane punishes Oliver's body with a nice straight punch.
Cane scores with a hook to the body. Oliver takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Cane throws a shot to the body.
Cane jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Cane cracks Oliver with an uppercut from hell and Oliver crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Cane's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!

Oh Oliver is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Oliver keeping moving, preventing Cane from controlling successfully.
Oliver seems to have got his legs back now.
Oliver working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cane.
Cane content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cane wants to control from the top but Oliver keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cane won't allow Oliver to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quentin Cane dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A cross from Cane lands.
Cane fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Oliver avoids it really well and circles away.
Oliver shoots and misses

and Cane counters with a takedown into side control.
Cane prevents Oliver from escaping the position.
Oliver gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Cane tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Cane throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Oliver defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cane.
Oliver squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cane unloads with some shots from mount but Oliver bucks and avoids them well.
Cane is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Oliver can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Cane breaks from Oliver's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Oliver avoids a series of strikes thrown by Cane.
Cane tries to control but Oliver wriggling away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cane is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Oliver has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Oliver!
Cane looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Quentin Cane has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cane trying to keep a closed guard but Oliver is proving a slippery customer.

Cane has his foot on Oliver's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oliver works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cane looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cane is breathing heavily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cane keeping moving, preventing Oliver from controlling successfully.
Oliver throws a big right hand that misses.
Oliver trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Oliver looking to sit in guard and control but Cane gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cane throwing strikes from guard but Oliver blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quentin Cane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Oliver uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cane.
Cane swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Oliver.
Oliver misses with a double jab.
Tommy Oliver is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oliver has his takedown stuffed
and Cane counters with a stiff right hand.
Cane smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cane shoots in but no luck this time.
Cane fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Cane scores with a jab. Oliver acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Cane clobbers Oliver with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.


Oliver is rocked!
Oliver walks into a jab.
Oh Oliver is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Cane shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Oliver is on queer street and Cane is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Quentin Cane!
