PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Simon Kurken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felix Pomfrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kurken kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Serbian national anthem . I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Simon Kurken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Felix Pomfrey!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurken shoots in for a takedown but Pomfrey shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pomfrey pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kurken is out of range and Pomfrey settles back down.
Kurken throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Pomfrey's head.


It looks like Felix Pomfrey has been cut.
Kurken throws a leg kick
and Pomfrey counters with a thumping low kick.
Pomfrey fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Kurken checks it well.

Kurken drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kurken stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pomfrey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pomfrey wants to stand but Kurken is controlling the position.

Kurken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pomfrey wants to stand up but Kurken is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kurken is pushing down on Pomfrey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pomfrey is fighting to maintain full guard but Kurken has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kurken seems to be looking for submissions.
Pomfrey wants to get back to his feet.
Kurken thows a huge punch but Pomfrey dodges it nicely.
Kurken trying to mount his opponent but Pomfrey defends it.
Pomfrey wants to get back to his feet.
Pomfrey is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Kurken is working for a kimura but Pomfrey is defending it quite comfortably.
Kurken looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kurken doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pomfrey counters with a nice leg kick.
Kurken shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pomfrey counters with an inside leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Kurken. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kurken swats away the attempt to clinch by Pomfrey.
Kurken lands with a kick to the temple. Pomfrey shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Kurken gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pomfrey counters with a big head kick but Kurken shrugs it off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurken shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pomfrey moves into the clinch.
Pomfrey tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kurken jumps guard but Pomfrey stands there with Kurken around his waist. Kurken gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Pomfrey tries a knee to the head but Kurken blocks it.
Pomfrey throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kurken blocks it with crossed arms.
Pomfrey tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kurken managing to block the knees to the body from Pomfrey.
Kurken tries to pull guard but Pomfrey won't allow it.
Pomfrey with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Kurken pulls Pomfrey into guard.

Kurken working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pomfrey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kurken is tightening it up a little... Pomfrey has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Pomfrey reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Pomfrey taps out! nice BJJ there by Kurken!
