The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brutten tries to close the distance and clinch but Down swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Down fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Brutten wants to clinch.

Down takes the fight into the clinch.
Brutten lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Down struggles to land a body shot inside as Brutten controls his hands.
Brutten swings wildly with an uppercut but Down uses good head movement to avoid it.
Brutten tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Brutten escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brutten stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brutten wants it to stay on the feet.
Nas Brutten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brutten wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Down has him pressed against the cage.

Down had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brutten defends it easily.

Down closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Down lands in his opponent's guard.

Brutten fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Down jumps guard and drags Brutten to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Brutten postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Down is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Brutten has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Down is proving hard to escape from.

Down goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brutten has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Down but great work by Brutten.
Down on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Down tries to get out of the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, if Down is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Down, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
