PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lucias Verenus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunzo Ura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shunzo Ura told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lucias Verenus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shunzo Ura!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yuuki Gou.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verenus misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ura keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ura closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ura lands in his opponent's guard.

Ura avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ura must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ura tries to free his leg and advance position but Verenus is retaining full guard.
Verenus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Verenus keeping moving, preventing Ura from controlling successfully.
Ura is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Verenus is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Verenus is breathing heavily.

Ura drops back looking for a leg! Verenus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Verenus manages to kick Ura off! Ura jumps back into Verenus's guard.

Ura drops back, looking for a kneebar! Verenus looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Verenus looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Verenus!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ura tries to improve position but can't.

Verenus looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ura can't do much from the bottom here.
Verenus in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Verenus throws an elbow but Ura slips to the side and avoids it well.

Verenus tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Ura sneaks back into half guard.

Verenus is trying for a kimura here. Ura looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Verenus wins by kimura!
