Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shinjo Tepanake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masato Takaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masato Takaya is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinjo Tepanake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masato Takaya!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tepanake shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Takaya as he avoids it easily.
Tepanake moves in looking to clinch but Takaya pushes him off.
Takaya scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Tepanake avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tepanake tries to close the distance and clinch up but Takaya swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Tepanake looks for the body kick but Takaya saw that one coming.
Takaya throws a nice looking combination but Tepanake bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Tepanake looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A left and a right from Takaya both land. Nice combination.
Good leg kick by Takaya there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Takaya scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Tepanake gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Takaya.
Takaya checks a leg kick nicely.
Takaya keeps the fight on the outside.
Takaya swinging wilding here.
Takaya tries to bum rush Tepanake with a series of wild strikes but Tepanake uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A head kick misses from Tepanake.
Tepanake looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Takaya is fending him off so far but Tepanake persists. Nope, Takaya circles away and we're back to standing.

Tepanake is trying desperately to improve position.
Takaya fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Tepanake is squirming around, avoiding Takaya's attempts to control the action.
Takaya is landing with some decent strikes but Tepanake is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Tepanake keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Takaya tries to control but Tepanake wriggling away.
Tepanake is wriggling around trying to escape.
Tepanake regains half guard.
Still in half guard, Takaya seems content to control.
Tepanake is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Takaya's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Takaya's back!

Tepanake tightening his grip on Takaya, looking for the choke.

Tepanake is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Takaya has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Tepanake throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Takaya!


Takaya is rocked!

Tepanake has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Takaya has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Takaya is still in real trouble! Can Tepanake finish him?

Tepanake is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Takaya knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Takaya for a finish.
Takaya seems to have recovered his senses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Tepanake throws a right and a left that Takaya avoids nicely.
Shinjo Tepanake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Takaya throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Takaya stuffs the takedown attempt from Tepanake. Tepanake gets slowly back to his feet.
Takaya connects with a crisp jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Takaya.
Tepanake wants to clinch but Takaya slips to the side

and Takaya counters by clinching up.
Tepanake lands a nice elbow.
Takaya lands an uppercut.
Tepanake with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Takaya looking to stall.
A short left from Takaya.
Tepanake misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Takaya.
Tepanake tries for a takedown but Takaya manages to get underhooks.
Takaya tries to work over Tepanake's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Takaya is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Takaya throws an elbow that misses.
Takaya is trying to stall.
Takaya manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Tepanake has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Takaya avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Takaya unloads a knee to the mid-section. Tepanake lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Takaya escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Takaya holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Takaya has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Tepanake clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Takaya tries to get the hooks in deep but Tepanake pushed the leg off.
Takaya keeps control of the position as Tepanake tries to break free.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Takaya is trying to stick to Tepanake's back but Tepanake is turning into Takaya. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Takaya's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tepanake.

Tepanake drops back looking for a leg! Takaya is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Takaya manages to kick Tepanake off! Tepanake jumps back into Takaya's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tepanake tries to clinch up

and Takaya counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tepanake won't be happy with that.

Tepanake manages to get back to half guard.
Tepanake wants to improve his position but Takaya is controlling well.
Tepanake moves into full guard.

Tepanake is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Takaya trying to control the position from guard on top but Tepanake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Takaya has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Tepanake to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Takaya is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Tepanake pulls down on the head and he's put Takaya to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shinjo Tepanake!
