The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zabitz scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
magners shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zabitz sprawls well. Zabitz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. magners gets slowly back to his feet.
magners closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zabitz did well to prevent magners getting side control.

Zabitz is refusing to be controlled, as magners sits in half guard.
magners gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Zabitz tries to work over magners's front leg with a kick but magners checks it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zabitz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

magners closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

magners stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Zabitz ducks under a wild hook from magners.
fred magners seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zabitz cracks magners with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
magners shoots for a double leg takedown but Zabitz sprawls well. He's pushed magners's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Zabitz counters with a left and a right that stings magners.

Some wild striking there from Zabitz.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Zabitz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A solid leg kick lands there for Zabitz.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Zabitz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from magners.

and Zabitz makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
magners shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

magners is looking to work some ground and pound but Zabitz has wrist control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
magners wants to pass the guard but Zabitz is keeping the position.
magners postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Zabitz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of magners, into his guard.
Zabitz wants to stand but magners has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
magners pulls Zabitz in close to his closed guard and prevents Zabitz from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eli Zabitz.
I think Zabitz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
