PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Andersen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jameel Matten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andersen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, American Bang - Wild & Young. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Andersen with that takedown attempt.
John Andersen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Andersen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matten avoids it really well and circles away.
Andersen tries to clinch but Matten moves out of range.
Andersen is looking to clinch but Matten is avoiding it.
Andersen with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Andersen misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Matten wriggles free and stands up.
Andersen looks to land a combination but Matten avoids it well.
Andersen shoots in but no luck this time.

Andersen looks for a takedown but Matten sprawls well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Matten tries to clinch but Andersen is having none of it.

and Matten counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Matten.

It looks like John Andersen has been cut.
Andersen fails to pull guard.

Matten breaks from the clinch.
Matten wants to clinch
and Andersen counters with a nice leg kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Andersen jumps into guard, dragging Matten to the mat.

Matten avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Andersen is trying to maintain the position but Matten is very close to passing his half guard.
Matten looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Andersen is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Matten is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Andersen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Matten pulls his head out easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Matten stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jameel Matten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Andersen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Matten circles away.

Matten rushes Andersen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Matten tries to land a knee to the head but Andersen blocks with his arms.
Matten has Andersen pressed against the cage, preventing Andersen from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Matten decides to pull guard.
Andersen throwing strikes but missing.

Andersen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Matten is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Matten has escaped and now he's on top!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Andersen looking for a sweep. Not yet Andersen, not yet.

Andersen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matten gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Andersen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Matten decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Andersen, up you get!

Andersen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Andersen throws a strike but Matten rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Matten postures up.
Matten slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Andersen.
Andersen is looking to control Matten's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Andersen avoid being mounted?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Matten seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Matten gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jameel Matten comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Matten has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
