PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Humberto Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hermann Goring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hermann Goring!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goring fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Goring closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Goring tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Goring has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cruz tries to bench press Goring off him but Goring keeps the position.

Goring is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cruz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Goring connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cruz some visible discomfort.
You can see the frustration on Cruz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cruz dodges the ground and pound from Goring.

Cruz is trying to control Goring's posture but Goring avoids it.

Goring tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Cruz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Cruz is pressing down on Goring's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Goring throwing strikes but missing.

Goring postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cruz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Goring, into his guard.
Cruz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Cruz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Goring wants to stand up but Cruz is controlling him.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Goring has wrist control.
Cruz stops Goring from standing up.
Cruz content to stall in guard here.
Cruz passes Goring's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Goring looks gassed!
Cruz is just content to waste time from the top position. Goring takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Cruz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cruz stands and throws Goring's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Cruz has an Americana. Goring didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Cruz is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Cruz hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
