The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kartov works over Godfrey's head and body with a nice combination.
Godfrey throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kartov counters with a nice low kick that buckles Godfrey's knee momentarily.
Kartov swats away the attempt to clinch by Godfrey.
Kartov misses with the combination.
Kartov lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kartov fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Godfrey manages to avoid it.
Kartov swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kartov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Godfrey was well out of range. Poor timing from Kartov.
Godfrey throws a sloppy head kick and Kartov moves out of range easily.
Kartov moves away from the strike by Godfrey.
Godfrey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kartov takes a swing at Godfrey's ribcage but misses.
Godfrey misses with a wild body shot.

Godfrey tries to close the distance and clinch but Kartov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Godfrey checks a leg kick.
Kartov misses with a body punch
and Godfrey counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kartov is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Godfrey rushes Kartov and presses him up against the cage.
Kartov wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kartov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kartov is trying to force a seperation but Godfrey has the dominant position.
Kartov tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Godfrey just stands there and leans against the cage.
Godfrey breaks the clinch.

Kartov lands a right hook to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Godfrey crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kartov - the referee stops the clock and Godfrey gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kartov. Godfrey manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Kartov lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Kartov lands a left and a right that send Godfrey crashing to the mat, dazed. Kartov thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Godfrey is rocked!
It looks like Nathan Godfrey has been cut.
Kartov throws a wild body kick that Godfrey sees coming a mile off.
Oh Godfrey is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kartov throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Godfrey takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Godfrey moves in looking to clinch but Kartov pushes him off.

Kartov lands with a hook. Godfrey tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Godfrey has taken the fight to the clinch.

Kartov clobbers Godfrey with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Godfrey doesn't manage to clinch there - Kartov circles away.

Nice jab there from Kartov.
Godfrey swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kartov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kartov is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Godfrey had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kartov lands a jab to Godfrey's midsection.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kartov thows a body shot but no joy.
Kartov cracks Godfrey with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kartov lands a jab to Godfrey's midsection.
Godfrey drops his hands momentarily and Kartov takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nogi Kartov dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Nathan Godfrey's cut.

Kartov walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Godfrey drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Kartov swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Godfrey's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
