Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Odda Nabonaga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Retso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Odda Nabonaga!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drake Retso!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Retso displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nabonaga throws out the jab.
Retso throws a jab when Nabonaga was well out of range.
Retso slips under a jab from Nabonaga.
Retso throws a big shot that misses.
Retso swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Nabonaga misses with a hook. Retso ducked under it nicely.
Nabonaga throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Retso on the side of the head.
Nabonaga throws a lazy right hand but Retso sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Retso rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nabonaga moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Retso shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Retso with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Nabonaga keeping moving, preventing Retso from controlling successfully.
Nabonaga is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Retso in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nabonaga on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nabonaga tries to get out of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Retso trying to control the position from guard on top but Nabonaga is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Retso stops Nabonaga from standing up.
Retso wants to pass the guard but Nabonaga is keeping the position.
Retso trying to control but Nabonaga is working from the bottom.
Nabonaga preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nabonaga looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Nabonaga stuffs the takedown attempt from Retso. Retso gets slowly back to his feet.
Retso shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Retso shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nabonaga pinned against the cage. Nabonaga gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Odda Nabonaga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drake Retso.
No joy there for Retso, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Retso walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


It looks like Drake Retso has been cut.
Odda Nabonaga is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Retso throws a right hand that Nabonaga ducks under and follows up with a left that Nabonaga also avoids with ease.
A solid leg kick lands there for Nabonaga.
Nabonaga scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Nabonaga misses with an uppercut. Retso saw that one coming.
Retso moves forwards but Nabonaga connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Retso swinging wildly here.
Retso misses with a double jab.
Retso throws a series of punches but Nabonaga avoids them all with ease.
Nabonaga scores with a jab. Retso acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


That has opened up Drake Retso's cut even more.
Nabonaga will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nabonaga lands a nice hook to Retso's body. Retso takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Retso looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Retso checks a leg kick.
Drake Retso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Retso closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nabonaga did well to prevent Retso getting side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Retso thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nabonaga's head.
Retso throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nabonaga wants to get back to full guard.
Retso looks to land a strike but Nabonaga avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Nabonaga controls Retso momentarily but Retso frees himself.
Nabonaga is looking to stand up but Retso isn't so interested in that idea.
Nabonaga preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Retso wants to control from the top but Nabonaga keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nabonaga takes a swing at Retso's ribcage but misses.

Retso shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nabonaga is trying to defend but Retso finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Retso has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Nabonaga wants to improve his position but Retso is controlling well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Retso throws a strike but Nabonaga avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Retso throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nabonaga works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Odda Nabonaga dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Drake Retso's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nabonaga bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Retso misses with a jab, cross combination.
Retso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nabonaga's waist but Nabonaga gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Retso off to one side.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Nabonaga here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Retso throws a jab but it's blocked by Nabonaga.
A low kick from Retso is predictable there
and Nabonaga finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Nabonaga misses with a body kick.
Nabonaga lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Nabonaga is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nabonaga throws a hook but Retso avoids it easily.
Good exchange - Nabonaga coming out on top.

Nabonaga lands a left and a right that send Retso crashing to the mat, dazed. Nabonaga thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Drake Retso's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Odda Nabonaga!
Odda Nabonaga retains his heavyweight title!
