PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Aittosumu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soviet Russia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Russia has chosen Soviet National Anthem as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Aittosumu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Soviet Russia!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russia shoots for a takedown but Aittosumu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Aittosumu closes the distance and clinches.

Russia wants to pass the guard but Aittosumu is keeping the position.
Russia wanted to stand there but Aittosumu had control of the position.
Aittosumu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Russia is controlling him.
Russia loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Aittosumu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aittosumu lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Russia kicks Aittosumu off and gets back to his feet.
Good leg kick by Aittosumu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A big left from Russia misses.

and Russia takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Russia defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Aittosumu.

Aittosumu throws some wild stikes that Russia manages to avoid easily.
Russia can't escape the position.
Aittosumu wants to control the pace but Russia is squirming around nicely.

Aittosumu moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Russia has worked his arm free - good work by Russia!

Aittosumu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Aittosumu tries for a kimura but Russia is defending well.
Russia is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Aittosumu is controlling him well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Aittosumu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Russia rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Aittosumu's guard! Nice work there by Russia!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Russia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Russia throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Aittosumu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Russia can do anything to dispel that myth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Russia accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Russia throws out a loose jab but Aittosumu uses good head movement to avoid it.

Russia is not content to let Aittosumu control the position.

Gary Aittosumu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Aittosumu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Russia avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Russia gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Aittosumu.

Aittosumu has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Russia uses from the top position.
