PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Noguiera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Rees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Noguiera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Rees!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noguiera throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rees's waist but Rees gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Noguiera off to one side.
Rees looks gassed!

Noguiera is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rees's half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Noguiera wants to work for an arm triangle but Rees is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Noguiera is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Noguiera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rees with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Noguiera is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rees defends it well.

Noguiera is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Rees to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rees shrugs it off.
Rees really wants to buck Noguiera off and get back to his feet.

Noguiera has hold of Rees's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rees manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Noguiera goes for an armbar but Rees turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Rees.

Noguiera manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Jay Rees seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rees throws a right hand that Noguiera ducks under and follows up with a left that Noguiera also avoids with ease.
Rees pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Noguiera misses with a takedown attempt - Rees sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rees throws a series of punches but Noguiera avoids them all with ease.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Noguiera drops back looking for a leg! Rees is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rees manages to kick Noguiera off! Noguiera jumps back into Rees's guard.

Noguiera thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Noguiera stands up over Rees, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Noguiera looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rees!
A nice elbow there by Noguiera.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Noguiera looking to isolate an arm here. Rees doesn't see it coming and as Noguiera extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Noguiera!
