Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Shamrock!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miroslav Krivanec!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krivanec gets the takedown into side control.
Shamrock manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Krivanec passes the guard and advances to mount!
Krivanec lands a nice shot to the head.
Krivanec is landing with some decent strikes but Shamrock is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Krivanec goes for an armbar but Shamrock turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Shamrock.
Krivanec working for submissions but it's allowed Shamrock to get to half guard.
Shamrock throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shamrock is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Shamrock is trying to control the action in half guard but Krivanec is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Shamrock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shamrock wants to free his trapped foot but Krivanec is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Shamrock thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Krivanec's head.
Shamrock is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Shamrock throwing shots but Krivanec is blocking nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Krivanec wants to improve his position but Shamrock is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Krivanec won't allow Shamrock to pass to mount.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Krivanec napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Krivanec tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Krivanec can do anything to dispel that myth.
Shamrock has an Americana. Krivanec didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Shamrock is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Shamrock hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Frank Shamrock!
