Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Herb Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dean throws a series of punches but Stewart moves out of range.

Stewart moves into the clinch.
Stewart drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dean pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stewart stuffs the takedown.

Dean gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Dean is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Stewart can't get the takedown.
Stewart tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Stewart shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dean's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dean closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Dean tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Stewart.

Dean escapes and gets back to his feet.
Dean tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stewart swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dean connects with a looping right hand.
Dean scores with a hook to the body. Stewart takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Stewart blocks a head kick by Dean.

Dean lands a left and a right that send Stewart crashing to the mat, dazed. Dean thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Stewart is rocked!
Dean pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stewart is still on wobbly legs! Can Dean finish him?
Dean misses with a kick to the body.
Stewart seems to have recovered his senses.
Dean connects with a body shot.

and Stewart holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Stewart misses with some punches.
Dean has had enough of the clinch but Stewart keeps him there for the moment.
Dean has Stewart pressed against the cage.
Dean fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Dean wants to break the clinch but can't.

Dean pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dean moves into range and clinches up with Stewart.
Stewart lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Dean.

Dean is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Dean drops back looking for a leg! Stewart is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stewart manages to kick Dean off! Dean jumps back into Stewart's guard.
Stewart wants to stand but Dean is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Stewart counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dean won't be happy with that.
Dean is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Stewart goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dean has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Stewart but great work by Dean.
Dean is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Stewart's shoulder. That is not cool.

Dean decides to stand up, so the ref orders Stewart to his feet.

Dean throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stewart checks a leg kick nicely.
Stewart shoots in for a takedown but Dean shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Dean throws a chopping leg kick but Stewart manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Stewart walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Dean tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stewart paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dean throws a body punch but Stewart moves out of range.

Stewart avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dean stuffs the takedown attempt from Stewart. Stewart gets slowly back to his feet.
Stewart circles away from the clinch attempt.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Dean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stewart's waist but Stewart gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dean off to one side.
Stewart shoots and misses
and Dean connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Dean throws a sloppy head kick and Stewart moves out of range easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dean. Stewart does a little dance to reset his feet.
Dean tries to close the distance and clinch but Stewart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dean cracks Stewart with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Dean counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dean.

Dean is controlling Stewart's posture.
Dean manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Dean jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Stewart is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Stewart and Dean has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Stewart has his opponent's back but Dean is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Stewart.

and Dean counters with a nice uppercut.
Dean misses with a wild body shot.
Dean tries to land a front kick but Stewart steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Dean throws a low kick but it's checked well by Stewart.

Stewart stuns Dean with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
James Stewart has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Herb Dean is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Dean has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
