Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonh Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rivers's choice of entrance music: Darude Sandstorm. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Demian Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonh Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Rivers. No joy for Maia on that attempt.
A combination from Rivers does no damage.

Rivers moves into the clinch successfully.

Maia works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Maia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rivers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maia has Rivers in his guard.
Maia bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rivers's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rivers takes the fight into the clinch.

Rivers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maia has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rivers has managed to get both his arms back between Maia's legs - danger averted.

Maia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rivers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maia is pressing down on Rivers's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Maia has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rivers is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maia.

That was a close round but I would say that Demian Maia will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maia wants to get back to full guard but Rivers has passed into side control.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Maia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rivers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rivers's back!

Maia patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Maia has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rivers has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Maia is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Rivers is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Maia gets his way!
Rivers manages to reverse the position and now he's in Maia's guard. Nice work there by Rivers.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Demian Maia dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rivers has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Maia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rivers gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Maia.
Maia jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rivers walks away with a smile on his face. Maia gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demian Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rivers misses with a few strikes there.
Maia throws a sloppy head kick and Rivers moves out of range easily.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Maia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rivers sees it coming and defends easily.

Maia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rivers is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maia, into his guard.

Maia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rivers defends well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Demian Maia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

I would just about give that final round to Jonh Rivers.
