PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Mantell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mantell comes into the arena with Macho Madness blaring out of the sound system. Lee Kerr has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Mantell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lee Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerr checks a low kick from Mantell.
Kerr misses with a series of wild punches.
Kerr throws out a loose jab but Mantell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mantell closes the distance and clinches up with Kerr, looking for a takedown. Mantell pushes Kerr against the cage but Kerr circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mantell stuns Kerr with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Mantell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kerr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mantell somewhat.
Kerr misses with a leg kick
and Mantell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Kerr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mantell is trying to control Kerr's posture but Kerr avoids it.
Kerr is staying tight to Mantell's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Mantell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mantell works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mantell is trying to hold Kerr in close to prevent damage but Kerr has managed to pass into half guard.
Mantell is doing well to control the position and prevent Kerr from advancing to side control.
Mantell wants to control but Kerr is keeping busy.
Mantell regains full guard. Nicely done.

Mantell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Kerr counters with a shoot takedown. Mantell fights it but they end up in guard.

Kerr stands up and waves to Mantell to follow him.

and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mantell's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mantell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mantell seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Kerr wants to get back to full guard.
Mantell is taking a breather. Kerr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mantell stalling away here and it's allowed Kerr to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kerr is trying to control the position but Mantell postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mantell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kerr counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kerr.
Kerr wants to control from the top but Mantell keeps moving.
Lee Kerr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mantell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kerr is controlling him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mantell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kerr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mantell is keeping the position for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mantell is on top in guard.
Kerr wants to stand and escape but Mantell is having none of it.

Kerr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mantell defends well.
Kerr is trying to keep Mantell in close.

Mantell postures up and lands a big shot to Kerr's brow.

Mantell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kerr manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mantell has Kerr in his guard.
Kerr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kerr wants to control from the top but Mantell keeps moving.
Mantell looking for a sweep. Not yet Mantell, not yet.
Kerr thows a big elbow that misses.
Kerr trying to control but Mantell is working from the bottom.
Mantell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kerr's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kerr wants to sweep but no luck.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Kerr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Kerr fails with the takedown

so Mantell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mantell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kerr shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Mantell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kerr tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Mantell drops back looking for a leg! Kerr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kerr manages to kick Mantell off! Mantell jumps back into Kerr's guard.

Kerr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mantell wants to control from the top but Kerr keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kerr throws a predictable looking body shot

and Mantell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kerr's guard.
Mantell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kerr swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kerr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mantell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kerr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mantell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kerr's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kerr's back!

Mantell is looking for the choke from the back position but Kerr is controlling his hands well.

I think Kerr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
