PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lath Hoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mo Riggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Go Ninja-Vanilla Ice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lath Hoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mo Riggins!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggins throws a leg kick but Hoy sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Hoy shoots for a takedown but Riggins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Hoy feints and as Riggins raises his hands in defense, Hoy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hoy forces his way into half guard.
Riggins won't allow Hoy to pass to mount.

Hoy is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Hoy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Riggins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hoy.

Hoy wants to work for an arm triangle but Riggins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Riggins is looking to escape.
Hoy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Riggins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hoy is working hard here to advance position.

Hoy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Riggins is just riding it out for now. Hoy eventually gives up the hold.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hoy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Riggins.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Riggins punishes Hoy's body with a nice straight punch.
Mo Riggins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Riggins plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Riggins throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Riggins missing with a left hand there. Hoy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hoy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Riggins.
Hoy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Riggins misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hoy.
Riggins tries a head kick but it misses.
Riggins throws a nice looking combination but Hoy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Hoy clinches.
Hoy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Riggins pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Hoy manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hoy looking for a sweep. Not yet Hoy, not yet.
Riggins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hoy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Riggins trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hoy's guard.
Hoy controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Riggins wants to stand but Hoy is controlling his posture from full guard.
Hoy is trying to control the position but Riggins postures up.

Riggins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hoy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riggins has managed to get both his arms back between Hoy's legs - danger averted.

Hoy looking for a guillotine here but Riggins defends easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hoy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riggins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Riggins wants to stand but Hoy has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Hoy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hoy seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Riggins is holding on tight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Riggins tries to lock up and control but Hoy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lath Hoy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Riggins fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hoy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Mo Riggins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Riggins misses with a low kick.
Hoy shoots in but no luck this time.
Riggins misses with a straight left.
Mo Riggins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hoy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hoy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Riggins knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hoy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Riggins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hoy tries to move to full mount but Riggins actually manages to regain half guard.

Hoy uses his free foot to push down on Riggins's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Riggins.

Hoy swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Riggins is now in Hoy's guard. A big mistake from Hoy there, giving up the dominant position!

Hoy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Riggins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Riggins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Riggins tries to stand but Hoy is controlling from the bottom.
Hoy looking for a sweep. Not yet Hoy, not yet.

Hoy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Riggins is aware though and is defending well.
Riggins is looking to stand up but Hoy won't let him.

Hoy has his foot on Riggins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riggins works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Riggins won't allow Hoy to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Riggins digs a good hook to Hoy's body.
Riggins comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Riggins is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Hoy rather than just go for the knockout.
Riggins misses with an uppercut.
Riggins throws a series of punches but Hoy moves out of range.
Hoy uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Riggins.
Hoy shoots in but no luck this time.
Riggins misses with a hook.
Hoy checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Riggins thows a left - swing and a miss!

Riggins throws a body punch but Hoy moves out of range.
Riggins scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Riggins throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Nice uppercut there from Riggins.
Riggins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hoy moves away.

Riggins scores with a nice head shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Riggins scores with a sloppy right hand. Hoy should have avoided that one.
A nice inside leg kick there by Riggins. That's going to slow Hoy down.
Riggins lands a jab to the head.
Riggins swings for the body but Hoy moves out of range.
Riggins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Riggins connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Riggins catches Hoy with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
No luck for Hoy with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lath Hoy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Riggins scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Riggins lands a right hook to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Riggins finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Riggins throws a series of punches but Hoy avoids them all with ease.
Riggins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Some bone on bone action there as Hoy checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mo Riggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Riggins tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hoy was well out of range. Poor timing from Riggins.
Hoy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Riggins.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Riggins.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Riggins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Riggins misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hoy.

Hoy wants to clinch.
Riggins lands a body shot.
Hoy on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Riggins stalks Hoy and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hoy's face. Hoy staggers backwards, shaken.
Riggins looks to throw the jab but Hoy is out of range.
Good standup being displayed there by Riggins as he connects with a hook.
Riggins ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Riggins lands a left and a right that send Hoy crashing to the mat, dazed. Riggins thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Hoy is rocked!
Riggins connects with a body shot.
Oh Hoy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Riggins lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hoy at a distance.
Hoy takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Riggins misses with a jab, cross combination.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Riggins has cracked Hoy with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Riggins lands another huge swinging hook and Hoy tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Hoy, before Riggins can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Mo Riggins!
