PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ellis Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dwayne Carter Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter Jr comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Stranglehold by Ted Nugent kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ellis Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Carter Jr!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A leg kick checked by Carter Jr.
Stone is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stone shoots for a takedown but Carter Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Carter Jr misses with a head kick.

Stone darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter Jr is refusing to be controlled, as Stone sits in half guard.
Stone is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carter Jr is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Carter Jr tries to get to full guard but Stone has control of the leg.
Stone tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Stone prevents Carter Jr from standing back up.
Carter Jr makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Carter Jr.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stone with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Stone moves into range and clinches up with Carter Jr.
Stone slowing the pace effectively.
Carter Jr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Stone gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Stone wants to control from the top but Carter Jr keeps moving.
Stone is looking to work some ground and pound but Carter Jr has wrist control.
Stone has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stone throws and elbow that misses. Carter Jr uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stone's guard. Nice move by Carter Jr!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stone throws a hook but Carter Jr blocks it.
Stone looks for a takedown but Carter Jr sprawls well.
Stone fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carter Jr avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ellis Stone. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carter Jr staying out of range there.

Carter Jr has taken the fight to the clinch.
Carter Jr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Carter Jr's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Carter Jr pushes Stone up against the cage in a clinch.

Stone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stone tries to clinch
and Carter Jr counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Stone swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Stone throws a nice inside leg kick.
Stone shoots and misses

so Carter Jr counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ellis Stone will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Stone shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Stone stalling.
Carter Jr wants to get back to full guard.

Still in half guard, Stone seems content to control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stone drives through and clinches with Carter Jr against the cage.
Carter Jr wants to get back to striking at distance but Stone won't allow it.
Carter Jr throws an elbow that misses.
Stone trying to land knees to the body.
Carter Jr tries to pull guard but Stone holds him up against the cage and eventually Carter Jr drops back down to his feet.
Stone lands a nice knee to the body.
Carter Jr is looking to break free of the clinch but Stone has double underhooks.
Carter Jr throws a knee to the head but misses.

Stone pulls guard effortlessly.
Stone controlling the position.
Carter Jr won't allow Stone to get back to his feet.
Stone trying to keep a closed guard but Carter Jr is proving a slippery customer.

Stone looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carter Jr is fighting to break Stone's control of his arms but Stone is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter Jr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Carter Jr stands up from Stone's guard - Carter Jr perhaps looking for a knockout.
A telegraphed right hand from Stone misses the target.
Carter Jr plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Stone with a poor takedown

and Carter Jr counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stone won't be happy with that.

Carter Jr tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Stone tries to buck Carter Jr off but Carter Jr is having none of it.
Stone is working hard here to advance position.
Carter Jr throws a strike aimed at the side of Stone's head but Stone avoids it well.
Stone is trying to control Carter Jr's posture but Carter Jr avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dwayne Carter Jr will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Stone throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Carter Jr counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Stone ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carter Jr moves away.
Stone takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Stone throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carter Jr's waist but Carter Jr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stone off to one side.
Stone tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Carter Jr counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Carter Jr throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Stone.

Stone fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carter Jr, pushing him back against the cage.
Carter Jr has Stone pressed against the cage, preventing Stone from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Stone lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Carter Jr or not.

Stone breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Carter Jr has managed to clinch.

Stone has hold of one of Carter Jr's legs. Carter Jr is fighting the takedown attempt but Stone gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Carter Jr looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter Jr, not yet.

Stone wants to control from the top but Carter Jr keeps moving.

Stone decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Carter Jr shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stone tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Carter Jr is able to avoid easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter Jr lands a right hook to the body.
Carter Jr tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carter Jr gets caught flat footed, as Stone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Stone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter Jr swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carter Jr has his feet on Stone's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Stone misses with a jab, cross combination.
Stone wants to clinch but Carter Jr slips to the side

and Carter Jr counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Carter Jr with a flurry of punches that miss.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Carter Jr from controlling successfully.
Stone looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Carter Jr lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Carter Jr drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Stone dives on top into guard.

Stone is looking to work some ground and pound but Carter Jr has wrist control.
Stone controls from within his opponent's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stone wants to control from the top but Carter Jr keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Dwayne Carter Jr.
I think Carter Jr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
