PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Shango (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Shango!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shango misses with a double jab.
Shango digs a good hook to Hunt's body.
Shango stuns Hunt with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Hunt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shango's waist but Shango gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hunt off to one side.
Shango connects with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hunt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shango was covering up waiting for the punch and Hunt finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hunt is looking to work some ground and pound but Shango has wrist control.
Shango is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hunt is controlling him.
Hunt working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Shango wants to stand and escape but Hunt is having none of it.
Shango will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shango lands with a hook. Hunt tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Hunt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shango looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hunt in side control, throwing shots but Shango defends.
Shango tries to escape but Hunt is in control.
Shango on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Hunt in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Shango is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hunt is controlling him well.
The referee asks Hunt politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hunt prefers to stall for the moment though.
Shango is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hunt has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hunt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Shango parries the strikes from Hunt easily there. Hunt is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shango to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shango throws a series of strikes that have Hunt backpedaling.
Shango is breathing heavily.
Shango moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shango misses with a series of wild punches.
Hunt moves out of range of the strikes.
Shango looks to land a right hand but Hunt moved out of range.
Hunt showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shango.
Hunt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
David Shango has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Hunt.
Shango cracks Hunt with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Hunt fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shango sprawls well initially but Hunt persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hunt is working for a submission of some sort.
Shango is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunt tries to pass to full mount but Shango defends it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hunt lands a nice short elbow.
Shango wants to get back to his feet.
Hunt trying to control from half guard but Shango is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunt looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Hunt is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hunt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shango's waist but Shango gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hunt off to one side.
Shango is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hunt fails with a takedown attempt.
Nice shot lands for Shango.
Hunt closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Hunt misses with a takedown attempt - Shango sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
David Shango is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

David Shango seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hunt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shango wants to stand but Hunt is controlling the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hunt throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Shango dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shango keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shango throws out a powerful jab.
Hunt takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A left and a right from Shango both land. Nice combination.
Shango connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Hunt has a takedown stuffed.
David Shango is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shango is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Hunt shoots in for a takedown but Shango shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hunt needs to keep his hands up - Shango had a free shot at his head there.

Shango lands a really nice looking cross but Hunt seems unphased.
Hunt walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Hunt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shango's guard.

Shango is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hunt is controlling him.

Hunt wants to control from the top but Shango keeps moving.
Hunt thows a big elbow that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shango!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shango bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hunt's head.
Hunt drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Hunt shoots for a double leg takedown but Shango sprawls well. He's pushed Hunt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Shango lands a left and a right that send Hunt crashing to the mat, dazed. Shango thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Hunt is rocked!
Shango lands a hook that stumbles Hunt back into the cage. Shango follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Hunt to the canvas! Shango pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Hunt has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). David Shango!
