The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Novikov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Saint Randy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Novikov wants to pass the guard but Saint Randy is keeping the position.
Novikov is working hard here to advance position.
Saint Randy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Novikov manages to get himself to full guard.

Novikov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Saint Randy defends well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Novikov is on top in guard.
Novikov tries to free his leg and advance position but Saint Randy is retaining full guard.

Novikov is pushing down on Saint Randy's leg trying to pass to half guard. Saint Randy is fighting to maintain full guard but Novikov has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Novikov has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Saint Randy is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Novikov yanks on the arm and Saint Randy is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Novikov.
