Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pop Jonesy!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jonesy moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Jonesy lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jonesy.
A punch combination from Jonesy misses.
Rua tries for a takedown but Jonesy sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jonesy scores with a jab to the jaw.
Jonesy throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jonesy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jonesy stuffs the takedown attempt from Rua. Rua gets slowly back to his feet.
Rua has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rua fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nauricio Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rua.
Rua shoots in looking for a takedown. Jonesy tries to sprawl out of it but Rua keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jonesy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jonesy lands a left and a right that send Rua crashing to the mat, dazed. Jonesy thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Rua is rocked!
Rua is breathing heavily.
Jonesy dances in with a quick combination. Rua is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Jonesy snaps Rua's head back. Rua stumbles backwards against the cage. Jonesy steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Rua's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Rua just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Pop Jonesy!
