Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buddy Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Smithsonian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buddy Austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Smithsonian!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Austin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smithsonian as he avoids it easily.
Austin moves away from the strike by Smithsonian.

Austin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smithsonian to the mat! Smithsonian manages to get full guard.
Austin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smithsonian bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Austin's guard.

Smithsonian drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smithsonian jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Austin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Austin is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Smithsonian has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Austin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smithsonian is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smithsonian and Austin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smithsonian sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Austin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smithsonian defends it well.

Smithsonian is refusing to be controlled, as Austin sits in half guard.

Austin is looking to take a break and control but Smithsonian is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Austin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Smithsonian was covering up waiting for the punch and Austin finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Smithsonian has his foot on Austin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Austin works his way back into a safe position though.

Austin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Smithsonian manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Austin has Smithsonian in his guard.

Austin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smithsonian is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Austin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Austin shrugs it off.

Smithsonian is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Austin is just riding it out for now. Smithsonian eventually gives up the hold.

That was a close second round but I would say that Buddy Austin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Smithsonian is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Austin's half guard.

Buddy Austin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Austin is trying to stick to Smithsonian's back but Smithsonian is turning into Austin. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Austin's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Smithsonian.

Austin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smithsonian doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smithsonian manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smithsonian had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Austin defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Austin stalling away here and it's allowed Smithsonian to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Austin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
